PAGCOR Dispatches Relief to Mindanao
The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) has officially commenced relief operations for families affected by the powerful magnitude 7.8 earthquake that recently struck Mindanao. According to an official report from the state-run gaming regulator, PAGCOR volunteers have started loading thousands of food pails onto delivery trucks at the agency’s warehouse located in Imus. A total of 10,500 food packs are currently on the way to the affected communities to help residents cope with the immediate aftermath of the disaster.
Distribution Breakdown and Affected Areas
The powerful magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck offshore Maasim, Sarangani on June 8, with an Intensity VII being felt in General Santos City. According to PAGCOR, the disaster has severely impacted more than 173,000 families. Many provinces in the region are still reeling from the loss of life, widespread destruction, and the threat of continuing aftershocks.
To ensure the relief reaches those most in need, PAGCOR has structured the distribution of the 10,500 food pails across several key locations in the affected regions:
- General Santos City: 3,000 food pails allocated for local families.
- Mati City, Davao Oriental: 3,000 food pails allocated for local distribution.
- Office of Civil Defense (OCD) Region XII: 3,000 food pails allocated to support regional disaster response.
- Second District of Davao Oriental: 1,500 food pails, which will be distributed directly through the office of Representative Cheeno Almario.
PAGCOR’s Commitment to Recovery
PAGCOR Chairman and CEO Alejandro H. Tengco emphasized the state gaming regulator’s commitment to assisting Filipino communities during times of natural disasters. Tengco stated that the agency’s relief assistance is intended to help displaced and affected families cope with the severe challenges brought about by the earthquake.
“During times of calamity, we assure our kababayans that PAGCOR is always ready to provide help,” Tengco said in the official release. “We hope and pray that affected individuals and families will soon be on their way to recovery and normalcy.”
