Collaborative Agreement for Education Infrastructure
The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) has formalized a partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd) and 66 local government units (LGUs) to construct classrooms nationwide. According to the PAGCOR Official News Archive, a ceremonial memorandum of agreement (MOA) signing was held on Thursday, September 24, 2026, at the PAGCOR Corporate Office in Pasay City. The event was led by PAGCOR Chairman and CEO Alejandro H. Tengco and Education Secretary Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara, alongside representatives from the participating LGUs.
Modern Classroom Specifications and Timeline
Under this initiative, PAGCOR aims to construct three-story school buildings. The state gaming agency detailed that each building will feature 12 classrooms equipped with essential learning amenities, including:
- Chairs, tables, and electric fans
- Facilities accessible to persons with disabilities (PWDs)
- 75-inch smart TVs with amplifiers and microphones
- A complimentary one-year internet subscription
PAGCOR Chairman Tengco stated that the program is designed to provide students and teachers with comfortable learning environments and technology that supports modern education. He expressed hope that the school buildings would be completed by 2027 or 2028, with priority given to communities facing the most urgent need for additional classrooms.
Funding and Broader Impact
The school-building program represents a key component of PAGCOR’s broader efforts to support public infrastructure and improve access to essential services in underserved communities. The agency previously earmarked an initial Php1.37 billion in March 2026 to fund the construction of 25 public school buildings nationwide.
Secretary Angara expressed gratitude for the partnership, noting that the planned structures are well-designed, high-quality projects rather than ordinary classrooms. Chairman Tengco emphasized that close coordination among PAGCOR, DepEd, and the beneficiary LGUs remains vital to ensuring the successful delivery of these facilities.
